Sensory Regulation is providing children with strategies to process their sensory input that helps to adjust levels of arousal, attention and responses. Knowing a child’s individual sensory needs is essential to effective learning, engagement and communication.

Zones of Regulation

  • Red Zone

    Is it dark or bright? Are there lots of items making it a busy environment? Are they moving or still?

  • Yellow Zone

    What sounds can you hear? Are there lots of sounds at the same time? Are they loud, soft, continuous?

    What can you feel? Your clothes, something under your feet etc. Do they make you uncomfortable? What do you like feeling?

    Are there lots of different smells in your environment? Do they make you feel happy? Are they relaxing, or are they unpleasant?
